I am constructing my art thesis and realizations.

Art            Art is not just what you do it is part of who you are as an artist.  Artworks do not have an age limit or a time limit. There is not an age limit on a goal therefore making art is timeless. Art can be made in a vast array of mediums and can be made of anything. One could be under the belief that all mediums are connected and flow into each other.  Materials are a dance of combinations, and you have to learn the dance to make successful work. There is beauty and struggle between material mingling and process. Art is an exploration and a deep delve into finding ways to manipulate materials and their meanings. The materiality of a piece sometimes helps define a conceptual meaning of an artwork.            My work is about projecting the interior emotions onto the exterior of my works. My work is about the struggle within, and a transformation caused by an arra...

Joseph Beuys Joseph Beuys is a documentary produced by Thomas Kufus. This film explores the life and art of Joseph Beuys.  The interviews are documentation of his journey to overcome traditional art. Beuys was portrayed to believe art is a powerful voice in society. It is a living, breathing, happening entity, not just a spot on a gallery wall. Joseph Beuys states,” eliminating the state is the idea of art.” This film is constructed by describing Joseph Beuys’ life and art from childhood to manhood. It is comprised of interviews and pictures from his life. The imagery is mainly in black and white, which gives the documentary a dynamic feel, and focuses directly on each situation. The movie was in German with subtitles. The insight into this artist’s life gives the impression of a disconnect between him and his family.  T...

Mothers Ocean

I have been working on this for a good while. I will always come back to it until I call it done. This piece is the last thing I will remember about her. Her ashes are here. Her ashes are among the waves. This was also the last day I spoke to my dad through a window. He was in the hospital and because of covid, I could speak to him through an outside window. It's the last time I saw him alive.

Maurizio Cattelan

“Maurizio Cattelan”           Maurizio Cattelan - conceptual art genius, or wolf in sheep’s clothing? The documentary “Maurizio Cattelan”, a Maura Axelrod Production, leads one to believe that Cattelan is the designer behind the artwork, and he is either a genius or a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  This film covers the multifaceted artwork and life of Maurizio Cattelan.        The film is constructed by images of his works, and interviews from family members, co-workers, and the artist himself. These constructs create a timeline of his life and artworks. The interviews show that Cattelan is not really close to anyone. It also shows that he is so removed from the public eye, he has employed someone to i...

Image
Abstract works at Smithsonian American Art Museum   Gene Davis’s drawing Saber Dance was on display in an exhibition of abstract works at the Smithsonian American Art Museum . This work is a black and white abstract, ink on ink wash, created on paper. Saber Dance by Gene Davis was created in 1952 and its dimesons are 13.5 x 16.5 inches on paper . [1]  Swirling blades emanate from the center creating a rosary balance. When the viewer engages with the piece for an extended period, lines begin to reveal warriors. Strong black and gray slashes bring emotion to the piece. Energetic line swooping, texture, and a variant of blacks create color and movement.       Saber Dance is an abstract piece in black and white but displays the power of a monochromatic dance. By emulating the color palette, the work reveals the power of reputation, rhythm, movement pattern, value, texture, and line quality. This piece is important be...

Yayoi Kusama

Image
Yayoi Kusama is a documentary by Magnolia Films.   Yayoi Kusama Infinity is a documentary by Heather Lenz and is a Magnolia film. It is about her life and ascension to fame as an artist. This artist had a prolific work ethic but was seemingly ignored by the art world. Kusama had successes early on, but her popularity did not emerge until much later in her life. In the film, the scenes are well executed. Clips were shown with actual pictures of the family from the time period. The movie also showed artworks and interviews with the artist, her friends, and coworkers. The documentary was very telling of Yayoi Kusama’s life. It starts out with Kusama as a small child. She was the youngest child in her family. Her family owned a nursery and sold plants and seeds. Her father was a man of loose morals and Yayoi’s mother sent her to spy on him. This was very traumatic for a young child, and something happened in a poppy field when she followed her father one day. She blocked ...

NFT Visting Artist

NFT      The NFT visiting artist. NFTS are described as monopoly money. A group got together and decided to make fake money. this is almost like playing a game and they will by sale and trade with this fake money. This money that was created you must make a wallet. then after you create the wallet, you can purchase an allotment of fake money where you can buy and sell art. Now you do not actually get the art piece it is a picture of the art or a notecard with the picture of the actual art. It is actually not a real purchase and you do not get real artwork. I want to sell my art for real money. I need real money to purchase materials to make real work. I am baffled that people invest so...

Instagram Visiting Artist. Dina Brodsky

Instagram I really thought  Dina Brodsky knew what she was talking about. She seems to be very knowledgeable about Instagram. She has an immense number of followers. I think she brought a lot of good information to the table such as cleaning up your Instagram and Facebook. If you are an artist, you need to have art, not home photos informal photographs. The dog and family pictures need to be on a separate private account.  Dina Brodsky gave a lot of good information, and I took interest in this artist enough to make some changes.
